Education

Model Community Project (MCP) has participated in public events including mall displays, local TV programs and newspaper articles to promote awareness regarding accessibility issues. We have worked with Powell River School District #47, Special Education Department and Vancouver Island University to establish totally integrated as well as separate programs for children or persons with disabilities. Powell River was recognized for these efforts by receiving the National Education Five Star Award, a prestigious award received by very few communities throughout Canada.
"We moved to Powell River after checking out the community on the Web. School programs, Therapeutic Riding accessible play areas and housing have made a difference for our family." Quote from a disabled member of our community

Vancouver Island University

MCP works closely together with the Powell River Vancouver Island University Campus in determining programs that are accessible to students with disabilities and recommend clients for their services and we work on determining courses that are of value and can lead to employment.
