About

Model Community Project was established in 1988 and is a not-for profit society that is run by a volunteer board, which consists of a president, past-president, vice-president, secretary/treasurer and different directors that represent a variety of organizations in Powell River. The president of Model Community Project is Debbie Dee, BMT, FAMI, and the past president is Dr. Geraldine Braak, OC, OBC. Dr. Braak's accomplishments are as extensive as they are impressive. The original founding members of Model Community Project are Susan Jersak, Maggie Hanson, Carol Hamilton and Bert Foreman. Model Community Project's Executive Director is David Morris, who has a lengthy history of involvement with non-profit organizations working with people with disabilities.

Model Community Project has been involved in many different activities and projects around the community and is recognized by the Corporation of the District of Powell River as advisors on disability. The main objective of Model Community Project is to ensure that people with disabilities can access the services needed in all areas of daily living, within the community of Powell River.

Model Community Project has a solid record of community improvements for persons with disabilities, the elderly and the community in general.
