The MCP has participated in public events including mall displays, local TV programs and newspaper articles to promote awareness regarding accessibility issues. We have worked with Powell River School District #47, Special Education Department and Malaspina University-College to establish totally integrated as well as separate programs for children or persons with disabilities. Powell River was recognized for these efforts by receiving the National Education Five Star Award, a prestigious award received by very few communities throughout Canada.
The MCP works closely together with the School District Special Needs Department to ensure that students with disabilities receive the best possible education and that their access needs are taken into consideration
The MCP started up the Bridging the Gap Program in 1997. We received used computers from businesses, agencies and the private sector. Initially the incoming computers were checked to make sure they were in good working order before we placed them with people that required them for educational and/or employment preparation purposes.

The MCP works closely together with the Powell River Malaspina University-College Campus in determining programs that are accessible to students with disabilities and recommend clients for their services and we work on determining courses that are of value and can lead to employment. Malaspina University-College administers the intake centre for new clients of Vocational Rehabilitation Services.
